About Us
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Our Story
Esteeri Kokundeka Memorial Secondary School is a government-aided day and boarding school located in Rubaya, Kashari County, Mbarara District.
The school was established to honour the educational and spiritual legacy of the late Esteeri Kokundeka, mother of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho (Salim Saleh) and Dr. Violet Kajubiri.
Today, the school continues that legacy by combining academic learning, discipline, leadership, integrity and practical skills to prepare responsible citizens and future leaders.
OUR HISTORY
A Legacy that Began with Service
The roots of the institution reach back to community service, faith and a commitment to literacy.
Community Church and Learning
The late Esteeri Kokundeka began a community church under a tree, known locally as enkukuru, at Rwenkanja Rubaya. The gathering later developed into a basic school setup to teach local children reading and writing for improved Bible study.
Memorial Primary School
In November 2002, one year after her passing, President Museveni and the local community renamed the nearby primary school Esteeri Kokundeka Memorial Primary School in honour of her pioneering contribution.
Secondary Section Established
The educational hub expanded in 2007 with the establishment of Esteeri Kokundeka Memorial Secondary School, creating continuity for learners completing primary education.
